Seeking Desktop Publisher / Graphic Designer
(Project available sometime in December January or February 2009)
We are a small, professional, independent publisher of a book on a business model for the escort industry. This is sold through our website and other book purchasing sites. We value our team members and offer the following:

WHAT WE NEED
Currently, we are in need of a motivated, talented, and forward-thinking Desktop Publisher / Graphic Designer - part time to complete a medium sized project and be there for future projects down the road whenever they arise. This is both technical & artistic design of forms etc.
The first assignment is a 400 (approx) page e-book located in many files. There are form files such as application forms, rate sheets, tables, etc. & then just plain text files.
All of this has to be created from Word docs.
This assignment will be done one volume at a time until fully completed & it should take no longer than 1-1 1/2 months, but this won't be 8 hours of your time per day, as you will be waiting for files that are being edited by the Sr. Editor who is already currently working on the project.
To fill this position, we desire a professional who understands we are a very small company & cares most about building a relationship with a growing company, than how much money they will make off of us.
We aren't cheap, we just know what our budget is, & we have to laugh at some of the quotes we get that are clearly designed for only medium to large corporations.
WHAT WE REQUIRE
We will only accept emails from individuals that possess the following job-related qualifications:
- Working Experience with Quark 6.0
- Working Experience with InDesign.
- Has excellent Desk Top Publishing skills in creating, organizing and designing forms, financial charts, the e-book page template, designing covers for each volume, etc.
- Experience creating TOCs.
- Experience working with Manuals and E-Books.
- Experience in modern print design.
- Typography experience.
- Experienced in dealing with online issues such as optimizing the images and pages for reasonable download time.
- Can create work that prints out well in black & white or color.
- Excellent knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and conversion of files into PDFs.
- Working knowledge of Editable PDFs and creating e-mail links and linkable words to open in the customer's default browser.
- Is PC compatible if you work on a MAC.

- A minimum of one-year experience that can be verified with you working in that capacity as a virtual independent contractor in your field of expertise.

- Have the ability to be organized, set and meet deadlines and work independently in a virtual work environment.
- Possess excellent written and verbal English communication skills to include being able to follow explicit instructions via e-mail, instant messaging and on the phone.

Here are the stats you need to know so you can make an educated bid:
- There are 5 separate volumes, but the entire manual consists of around 400 pages.
- 350 of those pages are text, approximately 50 of those pages/files are forms (gave examples above).
- You will be designing 5 covers & one master book cover, plus a not so graphic intensive cover for any large text files. I believe there are 3-4.
- You will also be creating 2 interior templates, one for the file (text), one for the instructions to the file. Both of these templates will be so similar (no images in the instruction template), it's just a matter of copying the template & changing it a bit, colour, font, etc.
- Then we need 2 versions of the book. One in low res for the e-book, & one for high res. for printing. For someone experienced, we don't see this taking up too much additional time, so we don't expect to pay double just because we want 2 different versions.
